I taught English at Woodmont High School in Greenville County, South Carolina from October 1994 to September 2002. The district and I didn’t exactly part of great terms and it’s where I got my first inkling of just how serious and severe the depression I’d been dealing with since I was in my early teens had gotten.
I’ll always remember my time there fondly, however. I made some lifelong friends with one or two colleagues but mostly with students, many of whom are fast approaching 30 now. These are some of the pictures I have from that time.
- Wink and I at graduation 1998. Wink was WHS’s first and to date only state wrestling champion.
- Beth and I at graduation 1998. She was Co-Valedictorian and one of the best students I ever taught.
- My very first team as a head wrestling coach.
- Mike and Joy. Two of my all time, anywhere favorite students and people. I officiated at their wedding.
- This was a crazy trio. L-R is Mike, Nick, me, and Derrick. All class of ’98
- Coaching with Robert in the background. I’m probably saying “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”
- If I’ve never done anything else right in my life, I got these five boys through high school. I taught them 3 of 4 years. L-R is Travis, Landon, me, Ray, Vince, and Rico.
Hey Wham, where are my pictures???? You know I was a favorite!
Luv ya!
